A new Marian Prayer Program in honor
of Our Lady of Charity begins Orderwide on September 8, the feast of
the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This program features an
image of Our Lady of Charity, the patroness of Cuba,
which will travel the state to various councils.
Click the image at left for an
enlarged view of the framed image.
Our Lady of Charity has special
significance to the Knights of Columbus, given the Order's first
principle of Charity, which was also the theme of Pope Benedict
XVI’s first encyclical, Deus Caritas Est. Therefore,
although the Virgin of Charity has her origins in Cuba, devotion to
her is altogether appropriate for Knights of Columbus everywhere.
As a sign of spiritual solidarity with Pope Benedict XVI, the Holy
Father and his intentions will be remembered during each prayer
service.
For more information on the Our
Lady of Charity image and devotion, please see this letter
from Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson and the September
2007 issue of Columbia, or the
Supreme Web info.
District Deputies will have detailed
schedule information -

Decency in the Media
The
Bishops of Kentucky have requested that the Knights of Columbus take
the leadership role in their behalf to combat the flood of
pornography ravaging our communities. It has become more
essential than ever that concerned citizens actively combat this
pollution. So what can we do about this flood of pornography?
-
Always be aware that this poison is spreading and assure that your
Council and Community are alerted when this creeping varmint is on
the attack.
-
Select a Chairman for Decency and forward his name to the State
Chairman.
-
Encourage your Council and Council members to join the following

material, advice or direct assistance.
-
Report violations of community standards to those responsible for
enforcing the law. Every citizen complaint must be
investigated. Complaints to the authorities are the most
effective single action a citizen can take.
-
Report all activities of your Council in this important area to
your KY State Chairman.
Founded by the late Father Morton Hill in
1962, Morality in Media is the oldest and, in many ways, the most
effective anti-porn, pro-decency organization in
the field.
It operates the National Obscenity Law Center, which is a
unique resource for legislators, prosecutors, police and others.
The Supreme Council has supported this effort financially for many
years. And MIM's public information programs provide
leadership and know-how for concerned citizens throughout the
country. Their work is substantial and important.
MIM requires
the active involvement and support of the Knights of Columbus and
others. These efforts are worthwhile because they have the
potential to restore some of the moral tone that has gone out of the
public life of our country.
