DISTRICT 2 REPORT
Fraternal Year 2004-2005
HOLY ROSARY COUNCIL 1055
Council 1055’s
young leadership has been very active throughout the fraternal year
2004-2005. The Council has had several fundraisers throughout the
year. The most productive fundraiser is its annual Christmas Tree
Sales during the Christmas season. The council also holds its annual
Lenten Fish Fries and their July 4th and Labor Day
Bar-B-Que. Council 1055 sponsors several youth activities throughout
the year. It sponsors a Basketball Tournament for the Special Need
Kids of the West Kentucky Easter Seal Center. Members volunteer time,
money to keep score, referee games, set up the brackets, host hospitality
room and banquet for participants, sponsors a Boy Scout Troop and
holds a Christmas Party (gifts, dinner, arrange games and movie) for the
underprivileged children of the area. The Council holds a potluck
supper every 5th Wednesday of the month. The council
provides the food, cooks, and help for the Paducah Cooperative Ministry
annual banquet; provide Christmas baskets for underprivileged families and
gifts for the kids. The council celebrates Memorial day by placing
flags on Veterans graves. The council also honors the Religious and
Vocation members of the area with a special meal. They also work in
solidarity with the local priests and local Catholic high School.
MONSIGNOR ANTHONY HIGDON COUNCIL 10962
Council 10962 was
established in 1992 and in the short period of time since then, the
council has built its own hall (mortgage paid in full in 4 years) and has
made a tremendous impact on the surrounding community. The council
has had 7 Grand Knights in that period of time. The council’s
initial membership was 93 members. Today the membership is 157
members with recruiting being a 365-day effort. The current group of
officers are young and very energetic. The officers along with the
members spend endless hours volunteering their time and effort on
fundraisers, community projects, church activities, youth activities and
family activities. The council has numerous fundraisers throughout
the year such as the Lenten and Fall Fish Fries, Thursday night Bingo
sessions, Bar-B-Que on the River, Catering meals for different
organizations that rent the hall. Monies from these fundraisers are
used for charitable donations, community activities, and church activities
and youth activities. The annual Tootsie Roll drive helps promote
the helping the Special Needs Kids through the “On The Move” program.
Special occasion functions such a Valentine Dance for the kids are held
with a sit down meal and entertainment. The council sponsored two
Special Need Kids for summer camp for the Mentally Disabled.
In the area of Youth Activities, the council took on the project of
building a softball field for the local Catholic High School Girls
softball team. In the area of Church Activities, the council helps
fund the Father Lou White and Father Ben Luther scholarship funds, support
two seminarians. Monies were used to help needy families with
utility and heating bills during the winter months. The
biggest celebration is the annual “Senior Citizens Christmas Dinner”.
The members and wives prepare the meal for approximately 200 Senior
Citizens, and meal is served in a formal manner.
MONSIGNOR ALBERT THOMPSON COUNCIL
10988
The Calvert City
Council was chartered in December 1992 and is one of our smaller Councils.
Small, but very active. They have only 62 members, 16 of which have
moved and live over 100 miles away. Like other Councils about 30% of
the membership is inactive. This leaves less than 30 members to
carry the load and carry it they do! They average 20 members at each
meeting and every fund raising event will have at least half the active
membership participate.
Last December audit
shows they spent $14,287 on area charities and church projects for the
year. The general groups were Families in Need, Parish events, Youth
events, Community events, Church/Facilities renovations, support 0s
Seminarian. Monies that were derived from their Tootsie Roll drive
were donated to the Marshal County Exceptional Center.
Some of the unique
projects this young council takes on each year are: Sponsor a “Keep
Christ in Christmas” float in the Calvert City Christmas Parade; clean a
2-mile stretch of highway 641 as part of the “State “Adopt-A-Highway”
program; provide a coffee & donut social after each Sunday Mass, a
member of the Knights trains and schedules the alter servers and Knights
(dressed in Tux) serve Mass and usher on Holy Days and one weekend a
month; they installed the flag pole and provide a new 6x 10 flag
every year. They also have a project to replace any American flag in
the county that is faded, torn or tattered. On the feast of the
baptism of the Lord, they present a rose and rosary to the parents
of every child baptized in the parish the year before. They also
present a rose to every Mother on Mothers Day. These are just the
UNIQUE projects. It helps that the wives and families are a big part
of these activities.
This is the Calvert
City Knights of Columbus Council 10988. Catholic men and their
families, dedicated, serving our church, community, country, and
fellowman. Working together for a better parish, a better community
and a better tomorrow.
JIM FRED MILLS COUNCIL 11591
Council 11591 might
be small in number, but the Council is very active in supporting the local
church and community. The council provides lectors, Eucharistic
minister, and church cleaners. The council sponsors a Pro-Life
program on the local radio station. They also have a display in the
vestible of church. The display shows the development of child fir 9
months. They also set Pro-Life booths at various local fairs.
Council 11591 sponsors several fundraisers throughout the year. They
have their Parish Fish Fries and Bar-B-Que at local fairs. The
council helped a young semenarian with a donation. The council
teamed up with local Youth Group at St. William to spruce up the grounds
around the church and build new flower beds. A highlight of the year
is the council entering a float in the local Christmas parade in a Marion
and Paducah.
