DISTRICT 14 REPORT
April 9, 2005
Council 2459 St. Joseph Winchester, KY ( 92)
This Council depicts a true image of men working together, and Knights
helping Knights. Through the Leadership of Grand Knight Jim Barlow, this
council has exceeded its member-ship goal by 200% for the past two years,
and is presently 300% for the present year. They have received the Star
Award for the past two years and is on track to receive the award gain
this year. This Council has the largest point gain in the state towards
the State Deputy Award, this will also be a repeat performance. Charitable
donations for the Church ommunity and Youth exceeded $24,000 coupled with
over 7600 service hours for the past year. They are a consistent
supporters of the RSVP for Seminarians with a donation of $500.00. A going
away breakfast for our Seminarian who spent the summer with our Church
community 165 parishioners attended. Corporate Communion was conducted in
June 04 with 83 Knights and Family in attendance. Installation Brunch
followed. The second Annual Octoberfest was held at the Joe Golinski farm
123 Knights and their families food, drinks and games were enjoyed by all.
The annual Blue Mass was conducted September honoring law enforcement
officers, fireman and EMS personnel. The Annual Tootsie Roll drive was
conducted in October, proceeds exceeding $4,000 donated to the Clark
County Handicap Personnel. Council supported a Handicapped Children Golf
Tourney, Easter Egg Hunt, Photos for the School Confirmation Class.
Council also conducted 2 Fish Fries proceeds to a Church project. The
Annual Pancake Breakfasts (November-April) with the proceeds donated to
the Youth Group. Flowers were distributed to all Mother on Mother's Day
with a free Breakfast to all Mothers. 118 people were in attendance. The
Parish has decided to renovate the Church Steeple Fr. Norman has requested
help. The Knights has taken this project as a major fund raiser for 2005
and has challenged the parish to the "Steeple Chase" to date $10.000 has
been raised by the Knights. I have been a member of this Council for some
25 years and look forward to joining in our success for the coming years.
Council # 5071- Sacred Heart -Corbin, KY (44)
This Council has been inactive since Jan 1.1992. Reactivation began: July
4, Contacted Fr. Dreves forwarded roster of 20 members Jan 1992. Aug 4,
Talked with Fr. Dreves he agreed a Council was needed, he is forwarding
mail to prospective members. and placing a notice in Church bulletin.
Sep4, Meeting held Fr. Dreves, John Smith, Walt Wheeler, Ed Norton, Carl
Kohlbecker Knight of Columbus pamphlets, Form 100s were delivered. Fr.
Dreves agreed to a 5 min presentation about Knights organization Oct 4.
Oct4, A visit to Sacred Heart Church Presentation made Sat.4pm 8.00 & 11AM
Mass A membership meeting was held at 1PM in the Parish Hall. 20 Knights
and 3 Priests were in attendance. Oct 6 Notified the State Deputy, Chief
of New Council Development, Walt Wheeler, Ed Norton, that the Council 5071
was ready to move forward. Oct31 Visited John Smith and Fr. Imfeld (Ret.)
was assured that meeting the goal of 30 members would be no problem. Nov11
Received names and addresses of 20 New Candidates. Nov18 Notified John
Smith that Walt Wheeler has arranged for the First Degree Team to perform
Exemplification of all new Candidates - Sunday December 12, 04, Notified
the State Deputy and his Staff. Dec12 First Degree Team performed First
Degree Exemplification, election held, dues paid, Forms 185 prepared,
temporary Financial Secretary was identified by the District Deputy. All
forms, required by the reactivation instructions, were forwarded to
Supreme Office. (22 new member,.5 transfers, 1 reassignment.) This Council
started off very active under the leadership of John S. Smith, Grand
Knight. In a very short time, they have generated 344 Service Hours. They
have prepared breakfast for members of the parish and served Fish Fries
during Lenten Season. They have established a property management program
for the parish property, including yard work cleaning gutters, and storage
rooms. They have erected an outside Parish Marque to keep parishioner
aware of Church activities. Some of the members, Teach CCD, perform Church
duties, lectors, communions ministers and ushers. The activity I am most
proud of was, 15 men all First Degree traveled from Corbin, KY to
Ludlow,KY, some 400 miles, to make their 2nd and 3rd Degrees. Their
membership should exceed 50 by the end of their fraternal year. Definitely
a Star Council Candidate.
Council # 10263 St. Luke, Nicholasville, KY (76)
This Council continues to be one of our most active councils, under the
leadership of Scott McDonald, During the past year they have contributed
$7,075. In Charitable donations in Church, Youth, School Programs. During
this same period time have expended 6100 hours of Service time. They have
supported the Church saying the Rosary and providing Coffee and Donuts
after Sunday Masses. During the Christmas season, they constructed the
crib on the Church Grounds. They joined the community in preparation and
distribution for the needy. A Christmas party was held for the Youth of
the Parish. They prepare Pancake Breakfast for the parish. They prepared a
Liverfest for the Knights Families and Friend, and Fish Fries are provided
during the Lenten Season. They have a continuing program of "Bingo for the
Vets" . Proceeds go to the Veterans Hospitals.This Council has an
outstanding First Degree Team that provides service throughout the #14
District. The Knights of this Council are very active in the 4th Degree
Assembly operation. They support the Youth Programs in the area.
Conducting the Free Throw Contest and Tootsie Roll Drive. This Council has
the capability for the Star Council Award.
Council # 11972 St. Williams, London, KY (89)
This Council continues to have problems with attendance and recruitment.
No new members in the past three years. They are held together by a few
members. Grand Knight, Alan Reeder. and Perry Scott continue to keep this
Council operational. With all their problems, they contributed $800. to
the Church and Community, along with 270 Service Hours. One major problem
is requirement for liability insurance by Catholic Mutual. Council cannot
afford the expense of this insurance. Council has submitted all required
reports. This District will continue to seek answers to the insurance
problem.
Council # 12774 St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Lexington, KY (78)
This another new Council that is 5 years old. Membership continues to
grow. It has great potential with 879 families. A very active Council with
donations to Church, Community and Youth was $2,554 and volunteer Service
Hours 5,018. They added 4 new members to the Council in September and 6
Members received their 2nd and 3rd Degrees. They are active in the 4th
Degree Assembly and held meetings and provided dinners in Dec..04. Pancake
Breakfast were held for the Knights and members of the Parish in October
and December also participated in Rosary service for the Church.
Sponsored a Knights out, a Family outing affair at Sals Italian Chop
House. Their interest in the development strong vibrant Family, they have
installed a Family of the Month Program. Selection is made at the Regular
Knights Meeting.They participated in the Annual Tootsie Drive and support
the Knights of Columbus Mental Retardation Program. Four Lenten dinners
were held by the Council for members of the parish, during March, A Casino
night and party fund raiser was held for the Lexington Catholic High
School soccer team and a Community support night was held for Corkys in
December. This Council performs a unique program of selling Knights of
Columbus articles of Shorts, Shirts, Sweaters and Jacket. This Council has
the potential to become a Star Council the leadership and guidance of
Grand Knight, Rodney Wells.
Council # 12852 St.Marks Richmond, KY (75)
This Council is a relative new Council established in January 2001 and
continues to progress in all activities. Last year through the leader ship
of Roy Cataldo, the Council received its first Star Council Award and is
well on the way to repeat again this year. Membership for this
Council has exceeded 100%. Their monthly newsletters keep all members and
the District Deputy informed of Council actions. They have a well
established First Degree Team which is a tremendous help to the #14
District. The past fraternal year this Council contribution to the Church
and Youth exceeded $3600. And 6,700 hours of volunteer Service. Each year
the Council sponsors a Car Show in JULY on of the main fund raiser. The
Car Show requires close working relation with the city of Richmond..and
excellent Community Service Program. This last year purchased and donated
a piano to the Parish School. Their Annual Tootsie Roll funds of nearly
$300 was donated to the MARC of Richmond. Thier monthly attendance
meetings is outstanding nearly 50%. They are also becoming very active in
the Fourth Degree Assembly Programs.
